Patent Analytics
Using custom code and machine learning we have developed a set of highly agile tools that allow us to offer tailored analysis of any portfolio or list of patents, for example:
- Highly sophisticated searches for combinations of keywords and phrases in patent claims.
- Inventor analysis to understand the origins of a company’s IP and the key inventors’ history and background.
- Identifying keywords for a given technology area or set of patent holders.
The ability to automate these tasks in a flexible way allows us to adapt the tools to answer very specific questions and reduce hours of manual searching and data cleansing to minutes if not seconds. This means we can focus our attention on the information that the Client needs and not the process.
Recent Clients have used our capabilities for risk analysis and comparison of technology providers to identify potential suppliers, development partners and competitors. As a result of this work one Client found areas to focus R&D investment and potentially add patents to their portfolio.
Forecast Modelling
With a combined knowledge of technology, supply chain, sales and marketing we can quickly understand complex, technical businesses and build a model to understand the critical success factors and cost drivers.
A recent Client used our services to gain an independent view of their business and generate a model to understand the start-up investment required. The output of the model allowed them to demonstrate the ROI to potential equity investors and lenders with a cash flow forecast. This was a challenging task involving products, services and multiple revenue streams from digital advertising.
Evaluating Portfolios
Combining patent analytics with our technical expertise and knowledge of reverse engineering allows us to understand the strength of a portfolio in relation to a technology, market or product.
Recent Clients have utilized this combination of skills to understand the competitive landscape and more specifically to plan public offerings and select partners for energy generation sites.
Working with Universities
We have the skills to work with the Engineering departments of Universities to look at areas for patent filling, potential industry partners and spin-out opportunities.
We recently starting working with a University Engineering department to look at how their patent filing and research compared to trends in the Russel Group of Universities.
Danny also enjoys being a guest lecturer, talking to Engineering Students about intellectual property in the UK in general, reverse engineering techniques and its use-cases.
Working with SMEs
We can leverage our skills with companies of any size using experience gained from working in start-ups and corporates. Working with Small and Medium Enterprises to overcome business problems can be rewarding experience for both parties, as we can help find the solution and it broadens our horizons.
